My Glowforge Plus is showing that the lid is open even though the lid is closed. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting tips. I cannot see that there is anything blocking the front door. The cables and sensors all appear to be clicked in. I cannot pull them from their connectors but they appear to be in the connector. Sigh my students are in the middle of a project and I would like them to be able to be back up and running? Thoughts?
I would see if taping a couple of magnets to the front of the lid removes the error. If it doesn’t, then you’ll have to contact support.
Sometimes there could be debris that slightly offsets the lid from making contact with the machine, which could cause it to not detect that is closed. It’s only happened to me once. But if is still not showing closed after you put the magnets on the lid corners, I’m going to assuming it’s a cable gone bad.
I just now had the exact same issue.
A print started and canceled itself a few second after the head started moving, then software told me the lid is opened.
I also made sure all cables were properly clipped with no luck.
Out of curiosity, where and how do those sensors work?
If it’s magnetic can i try to stick some in specific places as suggested above?
I know it can be the Black Lid Cable that needs replacement, but because of the evil orange I’m quite afraid about the customs fees if I order one for France so if there’s a way to make sure it’s actually that piece that’s dead, I’d love to
I guess I can remove it and test if all bottom pins connect with at least one on the sides with a multimeter?
Oh gosh i found a solution !
The cable is definitely working properly, but the sensor might not be as sensitive as before, or things have shifted a little and sensors and magnets are not properly align i don’t know.
If I stick 2 magnets arround here the printer thinks the lid is closed.
This adds a little gap between the top and front lid and fumes leak a little.
I guess I could unscrew the plate at the front of the top lid to reveal the sensors and stick the magnets right there, or connect wires together and i won’t be annoyed anymore.
At least, I found a way.
Only other option would have been to pay $400 to a scammer on ebay to get a cable that wouldn’t have solved my issue, or send it back for repair which would probably have cost half the price of the machine.
Some news here.
Actually, the black lid cable might be the faulty one. Yesterday the issue came back and sticking magnets wasn’t enough.
Or, more precisely, it was working with the lid opened, but as soon as the lid was like 80% closed, it was being detected as opened again even though magnets were still there.
With the lid almost closed but detected as opened, I tried pushing the cable a little were it’s bent and while pushed the software detected the lid as closed (with magnets). So that realy feels like the cable is actually dying.
After trying to unstick it by pulling on it, before destroying everything I tried turning the glowforge on just in case, and now the lid is properly detected as closed without needing magnets. But that probably won’t last long.
I guess I’m screwed unless I find a US or Canada based person willing to ship the cable back to me T_T (no way I give $400 to a random scammer guy on ebay for a $18 cable haha)
