Magic SVG

I’m shocked that there isn’t any conversation on this, yet! Here I am, back from halfway around the world, trying to catch up with the cool new things that I’ve been missing, which of course includes this newest feature, and I’m the first guy to post about it openly?!

Anyway, I wish I were more familiar with the AI prompt world, because it seems like it would make this a way more fun tool to use out of the gate without having to use up your coins. I wanted to see if somebody could help me with deciphering the economy of the coins. From what I can see, anybody, including a dog with an internet connection has access to this tool, but the bottleneck is the amount of times you can use the tool via the craft coins. GF states they’ll deposit coins to you, “We give everyone 500 Craft Coins to start and then another 100 Craft Coins each day that they log in… but as a Glowforge owner you get double these amounts, and if you’re a Premium subscriber you get 10x as many!”

My understanding is that this is a per diem situation, but only on the days that you log in, so they aren’t accumulating endlessly, but specifically distributed on the days you logon. The fine print I am struggling to decipher is whether that is signing into you GF account in general, or specifically the the Magic SVG site. If I come here to check out the latest MoaG post, am I getting coins?

Second, as I am a premium subscriber (have been since it came out, exactly 3 years of paying while not even having access to my lasers ), I’m trying to understand that conversion. 100 coins x10, so 1000 coins, correct? So say I login for thirty days straight, that’s 30,000 coins!? Since there is very little information on this tool, I’m curious if these coins expire.

It’s also interesting to me that you’re charged coins for each individual design instead of having several options pop up, only one is displayed, then if you like that design, you’re charged again to save it (though nothing is apparently stopping you from screenshotting the design and manually making the svg), or if you want to get a new design with the same prompt you are once again charged. I’d rather see a slight increase to the default creation price, and then be offered several choices.

Since I already mentioned that a guy like me will have more coins then they need, and apparent access to the magic canvas that I am just now looking into, it’s not like I’ll ever need to care about the economy of the coins, but I do care about usability and convenience. What would be cool is having tiers of creation/bundled pricing. Initial creation is 20c, have the creator make files from the same prompt and charge 35c, have it create 3 and charge 45c. Sure it makes it so that users aren’t burning through their coins as quickly, but as there is no monetary value to the coins, you’re really just bottlenecking people’s creativity and time.

Again, the amount of coins that any user is getting is likely more than they need, and I can see that the coins are strictly for giving limited access to an admittedly great tool, but the economics are a bit strange, to me anyway.

As a side note, I’m excited to use it, truly. My initial crowdfunding investment has grown into so much more than I ever thought, and I’ve loved having these machines and this community in my life. I’ll post here when I can, I’ve got a few ideas, but my current craft room is an absolute mess…

If you’re a premium subscriber the magic canvas tool is more flexible and powerful than the free per diem system.

I don’t know why you would want to use the per diem system considering that you already have premium.

You’re right, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t comment about the tool’s usability from an average user’s perspective.

One of my bit of initial feedback was that I felt like the point system was too complicated as well, so I think we’re on the same page.

Surprisingly, it seems more powerful and capable perhaps in the generation of the image, but falls far below in grammar :grimacing:

Initial prompt with Magic SVG

Magic Canvas, similar prompt

Canvas with a more specific prompt, different style

I enjoy that the M. SVG has a text box, this should definitely be added to the M. Canvas

Spelling has been a problem generally. With Premium, the text function blows out everything else as it is far more flexible and you can change the text for every print (like people’s names)

Magic Canvas isn’t the only AI with spelling issues. I just started using MidJourney and it has issues as well. I have decided it’s just easier to ‘add’ text after the image is generated.

I have tried Magic SVG and it is pretty neat. I agree with others the spelling isn’t always correct but it does generate 4 designs & hopefully one of the designs will have correct spelling. Playing with it It seems to correctly spell if you just use one word like WELCOME. If you use multiple words, that’s where you get into trouble. Also I tried saving the file and it does cost you some credits to save but so far I haven’t received my designs via my e-mail. Not sure whats going on there.

So far it’s worked for me. I receive them promptly at my gmail address. Are you using gmail or another mail provider? Could be caught in a spam filter.

Yes I use AOL, I called support & they indicated it may take a couple of hours to show up in my e-mail.

It’s definitely a lot of coins if you’re premium. I really like the idea of it, but my mind goes blank whenever I go to use it. I haven’t yet matched a clever idea with a good result.

I’ve had the opportunity to use A LOT of the recent AI image, logo, svg, etc… creators in the past several weeks for some projects I’m working on. NONE of them deal with text very well. Mis-spellings (even when using " "s) are more common than not, and many even introduce foreign fonts and words.
I finally resigned myself to the fact that if I like the design, I need to replace the text.

If I like anything about the design, I will still need to do a lot of work. Many will hardly be recognizable from the original.

I’ve had this same experience across most methods of AI images, to be honest, so it was not surprising. It can be frustrating. But if I just leave off the text and go with an image, it has worked better for me.

Same here :frowning: I’ve checked spam and tried on a couple of different days but still no emails, on a regular gmail account. I rather like the results, although yes, like all AI it seems to be utterly bewildered by text sometimes…

Wonderful feedback! We’re working hard on the text. Try ribbon text - that one works much more consistently well!

Please do let support know if you’re not getting emails.

The prompts and AI engines are different between Magic SVG and Magic Canvas. Magic Canvas is for lasers exclusively, so the designs have much more detail. Magic SVG aims to make designs that work on simpler tools like Cricut (or scissors!). There’s lots of other differences as well.

I had to disable ad blockers in my browser to get the email. This was suggested in the FAQs at the bottom of the main Magic SVG page.

Not me running to the thread because I’m a big ole nerd and thought this was talking about Magic the gathering…:shushing_face::shushing_face:

Is there a gallery of some kind of things you could use it for? I see a couple of samples here but can’t think how it would be useful for me…

Almost anything here that is a critter has involved Magic in some way.
