Marring on burn cuts

Weird - I’ve only bought one box thus far of that stuff and all of it’s been fine. I felt foolish cutting several sheets at a time to match the bed, then ended up with small cut pieces I don’t know what I’m going to do with, so I’ve stopped pre cutting sheets and now cut to match the project I’m doing.

Wood is weird man!

like i said, my first box was fantastic. second box? not so much.

I’ve been calling around here in Memphis. I can’t find anyone that sells it or knows where to get it other than home depot.

Thanks. Already called and they don’t do thin and couldn’t recommend anyone.

May or may not be relevant to this particular material, but people who have experimented with hardwood flooring have reported it takes more power to cut than the equivalent wood species not sold as flooring. Just saying they sometimes seem to do stuff to wood not sold as having only been cut, planed/sanded and dried.

Tom Eubanks Lumber Co Inc (website broken)

Cirtain Plywood (no website available)

http://www.wurthwoodgroup.com/ (definitely carries 1/8" ply but you need to call for a price.)

… shall I go on?

Rockler partner store:

I appreciate the searches, but no one has 1/8" or knows where to get it. The Wood Workshop came close with “pieces”. Everyone can plain/plane it down for me but that’s not too cost effective.

Memphis just sux.

See above re:

It’s right on their site. They sell 5’ x 5’ sheets. I buy mine in that size here in Atlanta for $15 usd.

Also Columbia products, the final link, carries a ton of cool stuff.

More specifically if the sheer number of plywood products is hard to sift through:

I found it by searching “birch plywood”.

Another thing to consider is that finger joints have a lot of stop and start due to the corners. So you may want to cut those separately from the longer straight paths to get both to work well.

Thanks. I had never thought about doing test prints. I see what everyone else does here and wanted to jump right in. Because of that suggestion, I now have a good speed and power level that doesn’t marr the wood and has nice clean cuts.

thanks all

I was just wondering what plywood type you have tried from Interstate? Do they have a good selection of 1/8" and was it shipped to you or is it local to you? Their website is a bit sparse.

They don’t do 1/8". I wasn’t able to find any place locally other than Home Depot that had 1/8" wood.

Did you scope these guys out yet?

This place in WI has nice selection of “scroll-saw” blanks as thin as 1/16". My folks got me a package of wood from them and it is all quite nice.

@evansd2 Yes. I’ve got them saved to check out.

@jbv Thanks for the link. Checking them out now.

Yeah if you’re looking for hardwood suppliers, Green Valley is good too.

Both have nice (and different) selection, Ocooch and GV complement each other nicely.

Has anyone tried a piece of cardboard below the wood to prevent flashback?
