Material day

It’s been a long time since I got some material to cut down for myself. I’m hoping it will motivate me back into making something new. Been so busy with everything else lately.

I seriously know that feeling!

I haven’t touched my machine since the middle of January 2024. I think I may be done creating.

Yeah I have been struggling lately to get into the mindset lately. Feels like something is in the air holding me back but it’s just myself lol

I hope you both find inspiration somewhere. I always get my mojo back when the need to make something comes from somewhere else…if that helps.

Oh no… I find it keeps my mind sharp to solve problems and build stuff, not as much as megadoses of caffeine but no reason can’t have both! Just this morning my wife asked me to do an iron-on t-shirt for a work event (always amazing how fast people think I can do projects, “Hey I need fully functional carburetor for a 1975 ford fiesta, can you get that done by dinner time?”, but the process does help me keep my creativity in problem solving. I don’t create art (while I am the son of a professional artist, that’s not my skill set) I create mostly practical things (whether for work or play) most recently concentrating on the latter with flight sim gear. I also use such opportunities to find out how real-world things actually work and how could I make a version for home-sim that doesn’t cost $4000/switch.

Just saying that made me think “Oh, just realized how to make that Airbus ECAM panel clear switch guard that looks like Airbus put a hinge inside a piece of acrylic (well I could I guess cast acrylic with a hinge pin in it, or I could 3D print clear resin in a thin frame, since it is edge on, you’ll never see it.”

We all grow past using a single tool Z for everything. I still can’t live without a laser but I find myself using it in support of other projects instead of being the primary tool used for creating things.

The right problem or opportunity will drive creation again. So much laser work is 2D and that does get old until you really need it.

I agree.. I bought my laser as another tool to use in the shop - although over time my projects dropped off and so the laser did get used more by itself, so it’s still important to me. It enables me to make things I probably could not using other methods.
I have a nice 3D printer that I only use by itself. It’s not set up right now but I am looking forward to being able to use it again.

I mostly use mine for making tools for my other tools so I can then make something else.

I am thinking about playing around with some of the more technical filaments and explore printing footwear. My son did some design work for skateboarding shoes/sneakers and if I can rope him in, I’m thinking we could do some cool projects.

I had three filament printers. Never again. Resin suits my needs much better.

I have panels that will go into my pro in the garage I walk by them all the time and grumble.

Keep pushing to find that inspiration you need. Try something new and see how it can lead back to the laser.

Me too.. after covid it hasn’t been the same….. I’ve recently started making stuff again as well. After a very long hiatus… I just couldn’t or didn’t feel inspired to create. My dad and sister sale at shows a few times a year, and I have been helping them get ready for it by making and replacing items that we’ve sold. I’m slowly feeling the old urge to make stuff again. I hope you get renewed inspiration my friend. It did feel good making stuff……..
