Movement issue

Here is a video of my issue. I’ve checked the track to see if there is any debris or anything causing this but can’t see anything. I’ll manually move the track myself and won’t have any issues or hear anything snag or crunch. I’ve tried rebooting it as well and it’s just the same thing over and over.

Sound on.

If you only ever moved it by hand when it was powered off, and have also power-cycled it, then I suspect a broken pinion on a motor, or a bad motor/driver circuit.

Definitely open a case with support.

What happens if you power it off, slide the gantry all the way back to make sure that it’s square, then bring it forward and place the laser head directly underneath the camera, then turn it on?

Does it still do the jumpy thing?

That surprisingly worked! Put it in the middle manually and then it booted up and just did a cut for me.

Appreciate it.

It’s also best practice to start your machine with an empty bed.

Materials in the bed at startup can cause the Glowforge to fail to locate the head/gantry. Then it may try to center the head and will go the wrong way, leading to “crashing” the head into the edge of its range. That’s exactly what it sounds like is happening here.
