My first Automata titled Clouds

It’s been a minute since I had a new project to post!

Although I have been making miniatures and dioramas for several years, I had never attempted an automata before. I am a part of a miniature challenge group on FB and the current challenge is automata.

I was heavily inspired by Stoccafisso design, who has made several automata with figures whose hair is blowing in the wind.

I designed the entire thing and it is mostly made of 1/8" and 1/4" plywood. The window is also partially made of medium and light weight chipboard. The airships are made from various pieces of beads, jewelry findings and random bits of plastic I hoard for miniature making.

Love this! Really nice job on all the details. I’ve had automata on the brain recently - maybe something will come of it.

Oh you should make one! I found it fascinating researching all the ways that you can make things move.

Do I spy a steampunk fly and a propeller-driven beer barrel? I like how you put so much depth into such a small space.

Oh yay! Good luck with getting it all together. I waxed all the cams and parts that would rub with some beeswax. That helped.
