My Glowforge started to engrave a design today. Part way through the engrave the laser stopped firing. The head continued to move as if it was engraving but no laser beam. I turned the unit off, checked the connection on the laser head, cleaned the lense and mirrors. When I turned the unit back on it went through the motions of engraving but no laser beam. The unit is 4 years old and out of warrantee. Is this something I can troubleshoot further?
literal same with mine this morning. Mine is only 4 months old.
Hugs! That bites.
First things first, (while it’s off!) double check that all your cable connections are connected, and that the little gold pins bounce back.
And reach out to Support (they’ve got phone, email, and Discord chat). If it’s truly dead they can offer you a refurbished unit for relatively inexpensive.
At 4 months you’re still under warranty! Reach out to Support.
I have read reports of the high voltage wire shorting out causing this issue. I have no personal experience taking the Glowforge apart to inspect the red wire/red cable. However, people on Facebook discuss it. You can read out the Wiregrass Technologies to see what they have to say. Their information is in the recent Glowforge announcement of May 2024.
