Not cutting at bottom of bed

Hi all  We have a newer glowforge, purchased in May of this year. We have lately been having issues with the machine not cutting boards towards the bottom of the bed. The top half of the boards cut just fine, but the bottom half typically requires a second and sometimes even third pass on just 1/8" material. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

When the material doesn’t cut as expected there are several steps to take: clean all of the optics and fans, make sure the honeycomb tray is correctly seated with no debris underneath the feet, the material is securely pinned down to the honeycomb tray and the table that the Glowforge sits on is flat.

The final step in diagnosing a problem is to cut the Gift of Good Measure on Proofgrade material using Proofgrade settings. If the print is not perfect, post pictures (front and back) along with the date and time of the print. In this case, be sure to place your file on the section of the bed that is not cutting properly.

This is all great information, thank you! I have cleaned the machine following a step-by-step video as well as the other steps. I usually place my design/material in the part of the bed that isn’t affected, but this doesn’t work with my larger designs unfortunately.

The point of printing the Gift of Good Measure in the area of the bed which seem affected is so that Support can evaluate the problem accurately.

The fact that it’s the bottom of the bed really points to the crumb tray being uneven - pull it out and check the feet and the divots the feet go into for bits of debris. They can be tiny and still mess with the focus.

Then try that GoGM @dklgood mentioned

@hardingpaperco I am so sorry your Glowforge printer is not cutting through your material at the bottom of your bed. We can definitely assist in resolving this with you.

Could you provide a photo of your most recent prints that did not cut through when placed at the bottom of the bed, front and back? Can you also provide the date and rough time the print was done?

I’d also like to have you print the Gift of Good Measure on Proofgrade material in the bottom area of your printer. This uses known settings and on known material which will provide me a good baseline on how your Glowforge printer is performing. I’ve included some instructions below.

Could you please do the following?

  1. Turn off your Glowforge, then turn it back on

  2. We included an extra piece of Proofgrade Draftboard with your materials shipment for troubleshooting. Place Proofgrade Draftboard in the bed and load the Gift of Good Measure design.

  3. Set the score and engrave steps to ‘ignore.’ Print the Gift of Good measure using the default settings. Allow the print to finish.

  4. When the print finishes, leave the lid closed and wait until the fans stop and the picture of the bed updates.

  5. Check the completed print:

    • If the Gift of Good Measure fails to cut, please let us know the date and time of the print

    • If the Gift of Good Measure cuts successfully, please try another print of the design you saw the issue with, and let us know the results.

  6. If the issue still occurs, please let us know the date and time of the finished print.

Once we have your photos and results we will be able to provide the best next steps.
