Someone posted about this issue in the past and now I’m having the same issue (mostly their past post below). My laser head is not being found, has anyone found a solution?
I have done the following:
Cleaned Air Assist Fan
Checked wheels on AAF
Cleaned all rails of the gantry
reseated all connections
Cleaned cameras
When I turn it on from the default position all the way back and to the left, it makes a grinding noise during calibration because it is trying to move to the left ONLY. If I turn it on with the gantry in the middle and the GF logo under the camera it sits and tries to home/center/focus for what feels like eternity and then errors out saying Head Not Found.
If you GENTLY try to twist your lid camera, does it rotate? It’s not supposed to, but sometimes the glue fails and the lid camera becomes out of focus because it’s been rotated, and the machine can’t find the head in the blurry pictures it’s taking. If that’s not the issue, it’s probably one of the two cables on the lid (white/black) going bad. They’re both user-replaceable. Customer support will troubleshoot with you, even if you’re out of warranty.
Update: I checked the camera on the lid and it’s not loose. I also took of the “head” and cleaned the 4 pins and wiped the area down. Unfortunately, I’m still getting the error.
This is a longshot but you’d be amazed at the wide variety of problems that can be caused by a poor Wi-Fi connection.
If you haven’t already I would reboot your Wi-Fi router, reboot your Glowforge, and test. If that doesn’t work then you can really rule it out by trying to use your phone as a hotspot and connecting to that.
You can find instructions for using your phone as a WiFi hotspot on the support site here:
Update: I tried connecting to my phone hotspot and it still didn’t fix the issue. The next thing that I’ll try is a wifi extender, since the room I have it in gets a weak signal. I just don’t understand how it went from working fine to this.
I suspect your issue isn’t WiFi at this point, but checking with the extender may be worth it if it’s easy. There are lots of possible reasons why the laser head may not respond properly, I think contacting support is going to be your best option at this point. You can reach them here:
Thank you all for the helpful feedback while I worked on troubleshooting my machine. I ended up reaching out to Wiregrass, shared a few photos, and they quickly identified that I had installed the belt incorrectly. After correcting it, the error is now gone. Big thanks to Wiregrass for their excellent support—I highly recommend their service!
