Outer engraving

I am trying to engrave around the edge of a piece of acrylic so that it will fit into an opening with a photo behind it.
I can’t seem to get my head around how to do this.
The attached file shows what I am trying to do - engrave the green area.
The one on the left works fine but I can’t get the GFUI to recognize that I want to engrave the green area on the right one.
I searched but didn’t find anything.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

The setup is fine, just remove the stroke color on the one on the right. (It’s already a Compound Path, but the fact that you have both stroke and fill color on the file is confusing to the interface. It will always default to a cut if there is a stroke color.)

I tried that. I removed the inside stroke and it would still not engrave. I left the outside stroke because I want that cut. I’ll look at it again tomorrow.

Are you trying to both engrave the green area and then cut out around it as well? If that’s the case you need two copies of the same shape stacked on top of each other; one for the cut outline and one for the engraving.

I made an example for you and it seems to work.
