Perhaps second to last step? With the design scored? And then glue the second layer?
yea, the ‘base’ was scored’ the reason I say last step, was there where so many places that if I messed up, it would destroy the whole piece, I do admit the deep end with the sharks in the water is my favorite place to swim. . . . .

These also make great centerpiece inserts replacing boring plain panels in cupboards, make great window pane cover ups still letting light in in the winter and summer AND great backlit pieces if engraved in 3d on acrylic! So fun!

I have been playing with that idea over many “windows” patterns. (I have hundreds, but none that nice).
