Perfect Plugs

Not at all! I was planning on posting it here. Pretty neat technique-- I was mostly just exploring.

Technique was:

  1. Take any photo
  2. lighten it (i.e. you way gray and white versus black and white so the halftone circles don’t overlap)
  3. Apply halftone effect (needs to be vector!) I’d never done this before so I googled: https://www.google.com/search?q=vector+color+halftone+illustrator
  4. Set the step to cut. Circles. Lots of tiny circles!

Very cool effect. It looks neat all transparent style but I would probably put a backer on it. Seems fragile

Totally agree that it needs a backer. My hope is to cut a similar pattern out of white acrylic and back it with a very dark stained piece of wood… Possible raised, with aluminum sign spacers like so:

I might play with torching wood, which results in a cool effect: https://www.instagram.com/p/zk8FPIP95-/?taken-by=tinkeringmonkey&hl=en

By the way, if you are instagram peeps and are looking for a GREAT laser-related follow, https://www.instagram.com/tinkeringmonkey is a great one. They do pretty magical things with lasers.

If you want to see Japanese shou-sugi-ban, wood preserved by charring it with fire, in real life head on over to Kraken Congee. You can see it in the pictures on their website. When it was first installed, we would get soot on our clothes walking up and down the stairs. Not so much anymore, thankfully.

Reminds me of posters we used to make when I worked a short spell at OfficeMax in college.
We used http://rasterbator.net. It was easier than using photoshop on the old machines. They were super laggy.
…no, I didn’t name the website.

I’ve used rasterbator for a long time. When I made these

I’m not the artist that my daughter is and lacking a cnc I was able to print the image at the size I needed with rasterbator and use that as a template.

Can I just point out the song in the background? :joy: :joy: :joy:

Was that just cardstock being cut? Or heavier material?

I see a lot of this kind of thing in my future, and may also experiment with engraving this kind of thing on the two layer acrylic like the party invites in the Promo video too.
