Pikachu Mandala

Hey all, here is my 2nd project that I completed. I created a pretty cool geometric design in Illustrator in anticipation of my GF’s arrival. After a google image search of silhouettes I landed on a Pikachu outline rather than just a plain rectangular cut.

This is approximately 10"x10" on seven layers of Baltic birch that I purchased on Amazon. I used manual cut settings of 170/100 after some trail and error. I was previously using less power but there would be a couple straggling internal pieces that did not cut completely. I used spray adhesive to combine the layers as that’s what I had on hand. There is some charring from the laser as I did not apply a mask but I will probably paint over it.

This is fantastic! If it’s not too much to ask, can you point me in the direction of how to do this? You don’t have to create a tutorial or anything like that (though it would be greatly appreciated) but I am interested in how to do this, especially since you mentioned that you used Illustrator and I have Illustrator as well

Fantastic work

really cool! like multi LAYER cool!!

It’s mainly an exercise of creating the individual shapes and using the reflect or rotate tools to create the geometry for you. Once you are satisfied with the design for a particular layer, use the Shape Builder tool to combine everything into one piece. The offset path tool is also very helpful in creating layers that are slightly larger or smaller iterations to get the stacked effect.

Here are some YouTube tutorials that might also provide some inspiration. Keep in mind that these were not created as guides to prep files for laser cutting.

This is the exact thing I needed! It’s even just these little things that are really appreciated. Thanks so much!

Love the depth.

Love the artistic appeal! Really stunning work.

Beautiful work. The design looks great with the asymmetrical Pikachu outline. Thanks for sharing tutorials!
