glued with contact glue Approx 4 by 4 inch

Looks like they are used to pin the edges together to line up the box.

How can you tell? I looked and zoomed in to see placement but no joy

The design has holes in the layers.

I can only image those are for lining up and pinning the box together. At least that is how I would do it.
