Hello All!
Can anyone tell me why this engraved a shadow? I have done this engrave before and it didn’t do this. I also engraved it on wood and it doesn’t have the shadow. Thank you for your help!
Hopefully someone else might know, but I don’t. This happened to me once…when marking on metal, also…but, several years ago…and even then no one really knew why. It’s never happened on wood for me, though. Is that anodized aluminum?

wild guesses in the dark…
Bounceback of laser beam if the metal is reflective?
Flaw in the optics?
Set to use multiple passes, and it became misaligned between passes?
Double-check your file?

What is the material you engraved on?

Is the material as reflective as the picture makes it look? For example, if you engrave on the front of mirrored acrylic you’ll get that kind of shadow…

Deirdrebeth may be onto something, I was just about to suggest adding masking tape to eliminate reflection…
