My husband and I have had fun playing with wood inlay in acrylic outlines. That actually looks really cool too. For cake toppers, I’m a sucker for punishment though.
These look amazing!!! As a former cake decorator I wish I would have thought of making toppers like that when I was still making cakes!
On to other projects now, I am really struggling with the intricate cuts on acrylic, are you using multiple passes/how are you preventing the melt?
Are you using the PG settings? Even if you’re not using PG acrylic those do an excellent job with little to no melt. The addition of paper masking can eliminate the tiny ridge you sometimes get.
I tend to tweak speed/power for the various acrylics. I’m still finding that the colors and different sources make a difference in the cuts. And long straight lines also. Makes me crazy!
Most of the acrylics I get do come paper masked. Some have plastic masking. I’ve been meaning to try dish soap (which I read works well! :)) Am still very much in experiment mode. It’s been so much fun!
I braved trying the Weldon that I had purchased eons ago, and have had various luck with it. I don’t have any deadlines now for a few months, so will plan to experiment more with that. Right now I need to get smaller gauge needles (which I have just ordered) and all stainless steel. I am finding the plastic lid connector thingies tend to gung up after use. Maybe I’m melting the plastic that connects to the syringe/bottle. Thanks for the boot up the bum to be brave about it. My worry is that with so many parts on my designs, one mess up means doing the entire thing over again. On simpler designs it’s not a concern to do over again. 0_!
I just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and tell you how amazing I think all of your work is.i especially love the personal designs made from photos.
Your level of precision is more than I would have patience for!
Suck up. j/k
She’s right…your stuff should have it’s own catalog.
Bahaha is it sucking up if it’s true? Lol
I’m the person who looks for the most quick and efficient way to use the Glowforge, like scoring if I can avoid engraving. I don’t have the patience.
I think right now in this stage of life, all my patience gets used up on my kids, especially the one who needs tons of extra time on things. I have to take a deep breath and settle in and come up with lots of creative solutions to help her. Lol she’s worth every second but it doesn’t leave me much patience for other things like this intricate work.
Thanks. It is a bit much. I looked at some of my first inlay projects and it has sort of snowballed into insanity. But I’m lucky to be retired now, so I’m enjoying challenging myself.
