Preventing "Death from a Thousand Cuts"

It’s not super flexible, but it just has enough give that you can bend it over a slightly wider handle at the top of the grater without stressing it into fracturing.

Pretty cool stuff! Try some! :slightly_smiling_face:

Wife said Hmmm and left the room.
I do believe I now own one (in 7-10 days at least).
We have some unforgiving knives (probably should have a little red strobe to activate when in use), so I imagine she is thinking about making a salad without so much attention needed.

(disclaimer: I actually owned a Veg-O-Matic once. It was my first $19.95 disappointment from Popeil if I recall. Might have been in the $9.99 range? 20 was a lot of money in the 60’s).

Haha, sorry! I think you’ll both be happy though. If you don’t like salad, it also does excellent cheese, and potatoes for latkes!

What it first resembled was a couple of rasps that came with the files I really wanted and cannot use on the sort of wood we use, and you got me thinking that kept clean (I have never used them) might indeed be useful for some of the things you mentioned.

That’s a nice cover for a nice-looking grater! Never heard of a micro plane one. I do have a couple of stick micro planes of different coarseness, which I prefer to use just because kitchen space is at such a premium and box graters take up a lot of room. No cover for them though. I did buy covers for all my knives, which really helps with the random finger slicing as they are all jumbled together in a drawer.

I need coffee and glasses this morning I saw “Death from a Thousand Cats” and was truly horrified, particularly as I am allergic!

There is this and also the well known “hold my beer” disease

Unfortunately, that happened to an elderly acquaintance of my great-aunt as well. Decades ago. Freaked her out pretty badly. (Wouldn’t bother me. If they need it, they can have it. I won’t be using it any more.)

But yeah…grab that coffee!

That happens to my wife. I try to keep an ear out for the things she expresses an interest in and then get it for her. Otherwise I have no idea what presents to get her. They can show up for Christmas or birthday months later.

This would be a Random Act of Thoughtfulness thing though - kitchen gadgets & appliances are not presents. I’ve learned that over the years

Fun fact: the Micro Plane inventor intended to make wood working tools with his “perforated metal edge” teqnique. (They were specialists in chemical resist cutting of thin metals and he noticed they always got razor sharp edges) It was only after his wife kept using his new rasps in the kitchen they pivoted their marketing to cookware. To this day he’d still rather make shop tools but the cooking side just brings in insane amounts of $$$.

(Hey, I held out for a whole day…for me that’s a record.)

Longer than I held out for a Glowforge after seeing the YouTube ad in November 2015.

Nice job, @Jules ! I like it!!! I brought up the link for the electric shredder @arh2… might just add to my list for a bit.

@jamesdhatch My husband has always done that as well … remembered something I mentioned. I did learn to say … “oh I like that … I don’t think I would want one … but I like it”.

Also, my Dad would get my Mom a small appliance. Yes, that wasn’t something that made her smile.

A while back I took a cooking class and the instructor had to wear cut resistant gloves for insurance reasons.

Even though I’m ultra careful around sharp things and have very few kitchen accidents, I still managed to slice my finger on a mandoline. I decided that was the last time and got myself a pair of those gloves.

Most food processors have shredding and slicing doodads. Of course, not everyone has a food processor…

Got several of those. (Trying to clean those blades results in a lot of injuries unless I go really slow.)

Being able to phoot phoot at a salad bowl might make it worth it though…the shooter just looks like fun!

I also need a quicker way to process foods for freeze drying these days.
