i have just wasted 2 sheets of proof grade material. I set the Glowforge Pro to medium maple plywood and the first sheet did not cut all the way through the living hinge. I could not align the material to recut it. I cut the second piece with one design and it came out great. When i put the same design on the other half of the sheet, it did not cut through at all. It was very smoky and the"cut" lines were very heavy. When I tried to recut it, i could not line up the cut lines, When I managed to do so, the preview was adjusted and it was off the original cut grid. How can I get this resolved. I did clean the machine earlier today.
I know it can be frustrating. When you say you could not line up the cut line, had you already opened the lid to the Glowforge or moved anything? If you cleaned the machine earlier, did you remove the lens? If so, it sounds like you put the lens in upside down which will cause heavy cut lines…and in turn, more smoke. The lens should be replaced with the ‘cup side up’.
Thank you for your response. I did open the lid to find it did not cut through and I probably messed up putting back the lens. I tried using the previous cuts link but still could not line it up.
Recommended process: put material in machine and use some sort of hold-down (e.g., honeycomb pins) to keep it in place; close lid; use set focus; run job; open lid and check to see if it cut through without moving the held-down material. If it did not cut through, close the lid, use set focus, cut again (possibly with adjusted settings). Do not move the design in the UI. It will cut in exactly the same place, regardless of whether it looks aligned in the UI or not.
Also note: cutting Proofgrade material using Proofgrade settings is guaranteed by Glowforge. Contact support and, they can issue you a credit for the failed cuts.
Thank you very much for this information. Will they credit me if I bought the material from Joann’s?
I’m not sure but, probably. Your best bet is to contact support:
Thank you
