my print looks perfect on my screen, but its off when it engraves. What is the problem?
Did you use set focus before hitting print? The camera is there to show you placement, but it’s got a margin of error. If you are not going to use a jig, then you should place the object you want to engrave directly under the camera, and use set focus on the center of your material, then adjust your artwork.
Depending on your camera, even that might be off. I had a basic whose camera was spot on every time. But my pro is always at least 1/8" off the mark, but under 1/4"- which when i contacted support, they said it was still in their margin of error, so it was fine, nothing to do about it. So, i always use a jig when i need perfect alignment.
On the forum here, you can look up a grid system that was created by another user. She gets accurate placement every time without creating a jig for each cut.
If you run the Callibration routine you can get it to an absolute, but only after you use Set Focus before placement. If you don’t get spot-on placement you can run the calibration again. It will use a whole clean sheet each time, so you get it to where it is not far enough off to spend another sheet. The good news is that you can use any 20" x >12" clean and light color. I use 20"x 18" cardboard or watercolor paper that works fine and is cheaper than wood.
Run the Calibration and use set focus for each print. At least 3 years since I have calibrated mine, and I have no qualms positioning critical prints on expensive material .030" from the edge of the stock. I also try to do most of my really finicky positioning right under the camera if possible.
