Printed piece shifts and alignment is off

Hello,

My print is about 1/4"- 3/8" off from where i place the image. Went to do a calibration and the test pattern looks like the attached images. It will not complete measuring sometimes due to software, sometimes due to wifi.

Also, the print shifts a during printing as well pretty much inline with how the test pattern appears shifted.

There is something up with the belt that carries the laser head. Check it for damage, or debris - but also check the wheels on your carriage plate to see if they’re cracking. If you find anything you can’t fix, take pictures and post them here. If you’re under warranty they’ll ship you replacements. If you’re not they’ll invoice you - or they may be available in the shop.

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about the trouble @ejtomlinson71.

To help us better understand the trouble, would you please send me the following photos? First, power off your Glowforge and remove the crumb tray.

1. The belt under your laser arm with the head pushed to the left:

2. The pulley under the laser arm on the right side from the front:

3. The right side pulley under the laser arm from underneath:

Once we have these, we’ll take a closer look and follow up with the next steps.

Here they are. Thanks!

Support is obviously going to be the helpful party here, but I must say Your pulley wheel seems not to be pushed as far to the right as the Glowforge one.

Thanks for sharing those photos @ejtomlinson71

As @dklgood mentioned, it looks like it’s possible that there’s a little room for improvement in moving that pulley over and increasing tension. Looking at those two photos you can just barely notice how your belt isn’t hugging the pulley quite as tightly.

So, I’d recommend tightening that belt a bit more and see if it helps. I’d also recommend closely inspecting the pulley for any cracks or damage. Even just a hairline crack can cause a problem as the tension of the belt moving can pull that crack open during movement.

That being said, I do think that just a little tension increase will clear this trouble up for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I’ve tried increasing tension as far as the pulley will go to the right but I am still getting the double lines. The shifting is not there and I was able to calibrate the camera but i am getting double vision type lines where it prints the same thing right beside where it was supposed to be.

And it keeps getting worse.

Hi @ejtomlinson71

I’m sorry the trouble is getting worse, that’s definitely a rough print result! What I’d recommend we do at this point is replacing the carriage plate on your printer, as this will replace all the involved wheels and that belt under the laser arm, and we’ll see how the printer is performing from there.

I see you’ve also reached out to us via email, so I’m going to close up this topic and I’ll follow up with you in email to get everything finalized.
