Problems after glowforge maintenance days

Lately my machine has been experiencing problems when I turn it on, it doesnt want to go to the center to focus and do all it does when you first turn it on. I managed to “fix” it opening the lid in the middle of that while stuck at “centering” and sometimes “focusing”, then it finally focused and moved to the upper left corner.

Today after printing a bunch of stuff for about 4 hours it didnt move to the upper corner and was just stuck AGAIN at “centering”.

I tried opening the lid again but it won’t detect that is opened, it is stuck at “centering”

I had exactly that and had to replace the black ribbon. The wires can break and become intermittent, so the error got better for a bit and then never again.

In addition if you are not very cautious installing the new one you can break that one also and still have the problem.

Well that sucks, can you please provide me with the link to that ribbon? Is this the one on the lid? or the printer head?

The link is here…

You will want a final say from support that it is the problem as you don’t want to change it unnecessarily but as they are currently out, it would be good to get on that list sooner than later.

My expectation is a high probability that it is the cable,

Thank you. For sure I will wait for support to reply first

I did not wait as it was on its way before they confirmed it was the problem. If it had not been the problem I would have had it close if it ever became a problem, and they are fragile enough to be worth the money.

Well, what really sucks its that the damn ribbon is out of stock!

That is why you want your name in now.

There are many other things that can cause that problem, the most common being wifi issues. Search for “stuck on centering troubleshooting” for some steps to try.

This is all to do with being all online. If the WiFi is iffy, the server can’t get a picture to know where to send the head, if the cable has issues, it has no picture to send to the server. Too much light glare inside the unit is another one. White washes the image sent to the servers. Out of focus camera lens but they’re glued in place so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear you’ve hit a snag. I’ve extracted your logs and can see that the issue is no longer occurring.

The issues you’re seeing might be caused by a poor connection with the cables on your lid. Please follow the steps below to check the lid connections:

  1. Turn off your unit.

  2. Open the lid.

  3. Using both hands, gently roll the laser arm to the front of the unit.

  4. There are 5 clips pictured below. Check each one to ensure it is closed. The clip should lie flat, and you shouldn’t be able to flip it in any direction.

  1. If any of the clips are open, please take a photo and attach it to your reply. Don’t try to adjust or reseat the cable until reaching back out to us.

It’s been a little while since I’ve seen any replies on this thread so I’m going to close it. If you still need help with this please either start a new thread or email support@glowforge.com.
