So I went to goodwill the other day and ran across this semi laser cut item.

Do you run into any laser designs out in the wild?

I don’t get out much, so it’s mostly junk (e.g. ovals with words on them) in the craft store. I have seen a few laser-made things in those sort of tourist gift shop places.

I definitely run into things all over the place. It’s funniest to me when I see them at antiques markets, but thrift shops, yard sales, art shops, craft fairs - we are legion :slight_smile:

Sadly when I do see one I like, I almost never get it because I know I can make it myself…I won’t, but I can, so I can’t bring myself to buy it :stuck_out_tongue:

Same here, and not only that… But I’m 1000% sure I can make it better every time. The curse of the engineer.

It’s really rare that I’m impressed by something in a store. I’m just not the target market for a swoopy font live laugh love sign.

Note: I said I’m sure that I could make it better. That doesn’t mean I actually could, lol! It’s the curse of the engineer for a reason :slight_smile:

I think for people who’ve never seen a laser-cut/engraved item, they’re a novelty.

For me, it’s just more stuff I don’t need.

The very few items I do have are purpose-built (like my mandala clock), or test pieces from “back in the day” before new features like passthrough went live.

This brought echos from the past. I’m not an engineer…and neither is my friend…but, we’d stroll through the entire Saturday Market (which was vast) in Portland (OR) saying that (quietly) about almost everything we saw in every booth.I doubt what we were saying was untrue, but we realized the difference was that they were making all the stuff we saw…and we didn’t make one damn thing.
We try not to say that anymore.
