Proof grade wood, plywood

Just wondering what exactly the finish is that comes with the proof grade wood? Is it lacquer base? Is it urethane base? I’m wanting to do lacquer finish on some custom boxes.

I do not know for sure, but my money would be on lacquer. Urethane finishes take a day to dry, where lacquer dries in minutes. It is therefore the most common industrial finish.

I think it has changed at least once and maybe twice over the course of time. At some point, sorry can’t remember where, Dan mentioned catalyzed lacquer, but it wasn’t clear whether he was talking about what it is or something they were investigating.
