Anything 1/4" or thicker I use mid-thickness for the focus to cut. It’s something I got used to doing on other lasers over the years and it’s a habit that I haven’t changed. I don’t bother with anything thinner than 1/4 as it seems to cut through fine with the GF (probably because it’s slower than most 45W machines).

I use the PG settings for thick basswood ply and have no problems, get a clean cut with very few instances of “skipping” a tiny piece.
