Hey all, so question for you. Have any of you ever used this leather pictured below and know if it’s safe? I am not a big leather user but I couldn’t pass this deal up from an Amazon return store, I got this pack for $1 lol. If you have used it before, I am assuming proofgrade leather settings should work for it as well?
Funcolor faux leather - you know it isn’t leather, so you are going to have to determine what it is. According to what I read, it is PU which should be safe. However, I doubt I would risk my machine before doing more testing.
Yeah, there’s a Funcolor store on Amazon, but nowhere do they list what their faux leather is made of. Tread carefully.
You can do a chlorine test by getting a piece of copper wire - burning it until the flame is clear/invisible - then touching it to the material, and returning it to the flame. If you get a pop of green colour there’s chlorine in there and it is not laser safe.
You’d need to do it on each different piece as there’s no guarantee that if one is good, that they’re all good.
No matter what you want to make sure your ventilation is top notch as pure leather smells like burning skin, and PU leather can mess with your lungs.
Been there, tried that, not a great experience really. Even if you use traditional leather tools to try and cut the leather it rips and catches the edges very very easily.
Might just be easier to use a blade cutter (Cricut or Silhouette). Either of those should be able to cut through that. I never trust anything (including my eyes seeing green) and only use things that obviously say Laser Safe. But I don’t cut a lot of different materials anyway.
