hello,
my laser isnt cutting through medium acrylic and medium mdf. I have looked thru other posts and cleaned everything I can clean and I’ve calibrated camera. Will cut through eco thin acrylic fine. any ideas?
Which machine do you have?
The lid camera has nothing to do with the actual performance of the machine, it is only for design placement. Are you certain that you have cleaned all of the optics? Can you share a screenshot of your material on the tray and your settings?
Glowforge plus. Laser Lens looks fine. Fan is not that dirty since its been replaced recently. Setting are GF for medium MDF cut.
So it is close to cutting all the way through if you can push it out. The lines of the design seem wavy, but that really should not be the issue. Have you cleaned the windows in the machine and on the printhead. Can you double check the lens and mirror for smoke residue or smudges. Finally, after cleaning the optics one more time could you print the Gift of Good Measure and photograph the front and back upon completion? Support will look at the photos and the logs of your machine and determine the best course of action. To complete your projects you can try slowing your speed slightly.
Specifically, check the mirror under the left edge of the machine - that your cuts are closer to going through on the left than right would indicate that’s the source of your issues.
I just cleaned again. It’s better even though not like it usually is. My pieces usually just fall out.
Mirror
R these what you mean as mirrors?
No, there is only one mirror and it is in the printhead. There is a window on the left side of the machine and on the left side of the printhead. You have photographed things that are not optics, but coverings for the clips holding the machine cover.
Here is the window in question:
I’ve done that one several times. The good fortune print was almost normal, just slight tearing of MDF on left side. So I’ll wipe again because it seems the more I do it, the better the print gets.
Just tried to print one of my nativities and it was bad again. So I have no idea,
Check to make sure the material is absolutely flat all the way around. I was using a piece of PG draftboard the other day and noticed that the upper left corner was not staying flat…the masking had gone out a bit over the edge and was preventing that.
I have the same experience with Draftboard that is really ‘old’. I worked with some recently that I bought atleast 9 months ago, if not 12, and had a similar experience - having to run the cut twice. Yet ‘new’ draft board still cuts fine. So just a thought.
Send the photos along with the date and time of the print to Support. Then slow your speed by 10 and see if you can get some things cut cleanly.
So all good points. Board is flat. Could be older draftboard since I ordered from Michaels and who know how long it was in their warehouse.
As for speed, when I slow speed to 490, it does nothing. No laser. It acts like it is cutting, head is moving to shape but no laser is visible and nothing is burning. Very weird. (Edited…adjusted speed on wrong place…cutting now at 158)
VICTORY! Slowing the speed worked! So maybe indeed an old board and slowing it down worked! Thanks for the help:)
Yay! but you should definitely still report to actual support - because PG is guaranteed to work so they’ll likely send you a replacement sheet.
