Is that reclaimed wood on the frame or a finishing technique? or maybe some of both?

I engraved the map onto Proofgrade Medium Maple & the frame is 5/8" square dowels that I stained.

I love the stain on the frame it gives it a very authentic “southwest” feel. Perfect.
