You’ll need some kind of chemical agent - the Glowforge can’t engrave metals. I use Brilliance Laser Ink, but if you search the site you’ll find a number of alternatives…

You can engrave on anodized aluminum as the laser will vaporize the dye. As stated, though, you can’t actually mark the surface of any metal by the power of the laser alone. You’d need a machine with at least an order of magnitude more power for that.
