I made a sign for my Grampa’s door. He is moving into a new memory care facility and I wanted his sign to make him feel special. Included many of this favorite things, trains, his vegetable garden, music and his cats. This is the most complicated wood piece I have done and I’m pretty pleased.
Beautiful piece of work!
Lovely!
Oh that’s so cool with the train!
Beautiful choices of woods.
That is exceptional. He’ll love it, and everyone else will be jealous!
That is gorgeous a real labour of love.
You should be pleased, it is gorgeous.

Awwwww…brought a tear to my eye. You are an exceptional grandkid.
That’s pretty awesome. How could you not like cats getting a train ride? Well done.
Thank you all!
The wood is Proofgrade maple, cherry and walnut plywood plus padauk hardwood for the sun and train. The padauk is untreated because I wanted the more soft, muted color rather than the deep, rich color it gets when it is treated.
And I agree, cats on trains are a universal happiness!
What a wonderful sign full of many memories. The wood work is beautiful - makes me want to live in that scene!
Thank you Dan. I’m not sure the photo even captures how soft and luscious the colors are together. It really draws you in. I’m going to have to make something for myself now.
Very nice work!
Wow, that’s going to be a hit in his facility! Great job.
Lovely sign from a very thoughtful granddaughter.
Wonderful sentiment and use of materials. You are a blessing to your family.
Gorgeous! He must really love this! You did such an excellent job.
That’s awesome work.
Cats are still evil.
What a beautiful and thoughtful gift! All of the little details that incorporate his interests are so sweet.
