Slumping my way through isolation

You can also use oven safe ceramics. I slump (in my gas grill like you :slightly_smiling_face:) using ceramic bowls I get in sets so they nest - then I can drape the acrylic over a smaller bowl and use the larger one to press over it. I’ve gotten glove fabric marks on the acrylic before if I hear it too much and the smooth finish of the bowls keeps the acrylic smooth.

They look amazing. Thanks for showing and describing the process.

You know…you’re right. At a temp. of only 325, I could use several other things I might find in my kitchen. I kept thinking it had to be metal…so thanks for the reminder. I want to find some more things that are not round, though…and that’s going to take some looking.

I get stuff from the local job lot type store. Metal, ceramic, Pyrex (or knockoff), Corningware. Most are bowls, dishes or pans but even ceramic tchotchkes can make interesting slump bowls.

Good tip! In my town it’s more likely to be the local thrift store…but sounds like the same idea…thanks!

They look great - especially next to the fountain! I used to do a similar slump with glass in my kiln, but acrylic is definitely the solution here! Nice photos of your process too.

Well. I have lot to learn, that you don’t count by the holes. It’s just tool envy.

What a lovely fountain, and now it has such a gorgeous addition to the display!

Fantastic!!! I’ve only used my blocks to help align / square up corners.

Thank you! I do that, too. But, they do make great weights if you ever do something that would be helped by that.
