Unfortunately, I don’t think we have to wait to know that. Particulates are bad for your health. It’s not just an unpleasant smell.

Remember that the next time you step in a dog’s present because the owner didn’t scoop up afterward 
Or when you scoop up after your dog, think about it before getting your face too close.
Just saying… 
For acrylic, I wait a few minutes before opening the lid and then immediately put the cut piece and the acrylic it was cut out from outdoors overnight.
For wood, I enjoy the fact that my house now smells really good.
