Love the different design of this one. And I prefer the tree tops as the top, which I think adds a bit of calmness to the business of the clock. Just my opinion.

I like the way you did those vertical slats. Not a finger joint in sight.

Two more versions. Thinner wood face for improced readability (wider angle). And paper face (thick paper sprayed black on the back) for widest angle viewing.
I think all the ingredients are there now.
My ideal config: thick back slats and paper face.
Alternative idea, replace back slats with my traditional spirit lamp led grid.
