I was interested to know if any had found a source for an iphone case (iphone 8+ specfically) that would be suitable to inlay some wood. I’d rather not glue it directly t he back of my phone, and figured that the veneer would last longer, if it was inset slightly into the back of the case. something with a rubberized edge would work best (for grip value).

I have been looking at using “gecko tape” to add a wooden backside to my phone.

You could still add a rubber bumper band for extra protection.
You might try a Dollar Store in your area. I’ve come across simple and cheap phone cases that they sell that you can modify and apply your veneer. And being $1 means you don’t have to worry about your cost if something goes wrong.
