My aura quit connecting to wifi. Motor runs even with lid open. When I hold button down, button will turn purple and motor will stop running. GF can’t help because it’s not connected to wifi. They said they’ll send me a new machine AFTER I send this one back. I didn’t keep the packaging. I tried wrapping in cardboard boxes and using foam noodles to protect it but the GF person said it’s not protected enough from getting damaged in the shipping. Then they quit responding to me.
It sounds like you’re going to need some help from Glowforge support. This is just a community forum; there’s nothing any of us can do here to get them to respond to you or to address your shipping issue. The best way to contact them now is probably over the phone.
But just in case, it’s worth making sure there is really a problem with your machine before you go to any more trouble. You said you hold down the button and it turns purple — if you mean teal, that’s what is supposed to happen when you hold down the button. It goes into setup mode and from there you would normally run the setup program and connect your computer to the Glowforge in order to complete the process.
It’s unclear from your message whether you have been doing that, and if that’s where it’s getting stuck. Even if you have already been through it, I would recommend very carefully and thoroughly reading and following the steps at https://support.glowforge.com/hc/en-us/articles/1260807177450-Connect-Your-Glowforge-to-Wi-Fi. There’s a chance you could get your machine back online this way.
But if it is actually broken, there’s unfortunately nothing anyone on the forum can do to help. For the bigger machines, at least in the past, Glowforge had a similar policy about not allowing it to be shipped in anything but their own packaging, and they would sell the packaging (at considerable expense) if you needed it. I don’t know if that’s available for the Aura… it seems like a much simpler box, but what do I know. I remember back in the very good old days I had an Apple laptop that failed under warranty, I called them, and overnight they sent a return box at no charge, fixed it, and had it back to me in 5 days.
Thank you for your kind suggestions. But, no. The button does not turn teal. It turns purple
I had to take a picture of a picture because it said the picture I had was too large. I HAVE contacted them. They said send it back and they’d send me a new one. Then they quit contacting me. I was just on here to SEE if anyone else had the same problem. Motor running even with the lid open and the button turning purple.
Unfortunately the Aura is a relatively new machine so we have very little info on it.
Doing a search for Aura+Purple only got this post, and a bunch talking about cutting purple acrylic. Pretty sure you need to reach out to Support (by phone or Discord so you get an instant answer) and ask how to get a replacement box.
This time when you get your machine - keep the box like it says to! That’ll likely guarantee you never need it
They said to put it in any box that it fits into but send them pictures. So I did. They said it needs more protection so I wrapped pool noodles all the way around that box and placed into a bigger box. Sent them pictures. Then they stopped communicating with me.

I found this thread about a plus from the old days…
