So i had this problem earlier in this week. However now i cant get it to go away. I have cleaned all the lenses and gone through the forums as well as the glowforge FAQ’s and so fourth. My computer just says focusing and then you hear the lens click away like 3-5 times and it keeps doing that. I have left the lid open for like 10 minutes and i still get the same ending. When i turn it on you hear the fans cycle just a tad and stop. I recently did a good cleaning on the glowforge and I dont know if that couldve affected it in any way?
You will get lots of suggestions, so be patient.
I read your comment as if the clicks just keep repeating after power up, not just a single burst. If the unit gets stuck on focusing it would seem to me that the unit doesn’t like something. First thing I would do is check the ribbon cable that goes to the head. Making sure it is seated correctly and that none of the pins are bent. Might also reseat the lens in the head just to make sure something isn’t stuck. Keep in mind that my no cost suggestions may be worth exactly that.
this has been happening REPEATEDLY lately with our laser. We have always managed to get it back up and printing, but is is something that is happening nearly one out of two prints now. At some point, once we’ve reached our tolerance level, we’ll probably contact support, but right now, it seems it is an annoyance at best. I just keep checking to see if there is a common denominator.
I’m sorry about the trouble. Firstly, hearing the fan spinning up briefly at startup is normal. This is behavior that you should expect since our most recent firmware update. I apologize for any confusion.
I’ve extracted the logs from your Glowforge to investigate, and found that your unit is having trouble calibrating the focusing lens inside the printer head, which is why you continue to hear the clicking sound.
During the recent cleaning you mentioned, it’s possible that the printer head lens was re-inserted incorrectly. Could you please try these steps to check?
- Turn off your Glowforge.
- Follow the instructions here. When following these steps, make sure that you hear the magnet click when re-inserting the lens using the lens tool.
- Close the lid, and turn your Glowforge back on.
Let me know how it goes. Thanks in advance!
got it to work thank you very much!!
