Styrene

Brand new owner here. Is styrene safe to cut?
Thanks

Might make a mess as it is easy to melt.

It catches fire quickly, burns rapidly, it melts, and only thin pieces cut. This is the #1 material that causes laser fires!!!

I cut thin styrene sheet for architectural models. Using low power and fast speed (test first) and you don’t necessarily need to cut right through - for straight lines a light score will allow you to bend and cleanly snap along the score line. Cutting raises a tiny bead that you might want to sand off.

I also cut 2 mm styrene sheets for letter and signage stencils at very low power.
