SVGs not importing correctly

Curious if anyone else has experienced this, and if you have any ideas for fixing it.

Starting today, my GF Pro is not importing files correctly.

When I import any SVG it’s doing two things:

  1. It converts elements with a fill to what appears like a negative bitmap. This occurs with any file I upload, including files that have printed correctly as recently as last week.
  2. It also does not show a preview of the other layers that are a stroke, nor do they print.

I opened several older projects from ‘My Designs’ with similar attributes and they opened correctly. But when I upload any of those same files as a new project, it loads incorrectly as described above.

I have rebooted both the computer and the GF and reloaded the browser page to no avail.

As an example, attached is a screenshot of what the workspace looks like and the file that I uploaded. In it, the lettering is vector art with a fill. The heart shape and small circles are strokes. There is not now, nor ever was a bitmap image or scan in this file, nor any non-printing layers

fwiw, I’m working on a Lenovo Win11 laptop, in the Edge browser - which has worked fine until now. I also tried in the DuckDuckGo browser with the same results.

For comparison, here is a screenshot of the original project from ‘My Designs’, which still loads correctly.

There have been some wonky things going on. Try opening the app in Firefox, changing the material and/or resetting the file.

I had an issue about 8 hours ago or so. I had an engrave logo, but I had words in the middle that were not to be engraved. It worked a few days ago, but this time when I loaded it again, the entire center was engraved over, but if I changed it to score or cut, the spot that wasn’t supposed to be engraved showed up. Refreshing my browser didn’t work and reloading the file didn’t work.

Anyways, it was weird, but I deleted everything from the UI, went to my file and duplicated it and moved the duplicate to another part of the file. Saved it, then refreshed my browser again. Uploaded it, and both the duplicate and the original showed up properly. There was nothing wrong with my file. It was just doing something weird in the interface.

This is what I mean by not engraving the middle.

Thanks for the suggestions. Firefox is not compatible with this computer, but I’ve used both Edge and DuckDuckGo with the same results. I also changed the material - no change. Not sure what you mean by resetting the file, but I’ve deleted the art, reuploaded the art to the same project, and created a new project with the same file, all with the same result.

There is new behavior that I’ll elaborate on in a separate reply.

Yeah, that is weird. Wonder if it’s the same issue. In my issue, it is flattening and making negative any object with a fill. I haven’t tried going back to inkscape to dupe the file, but the one that I tried first was a dupe on another file with edits. Might have to try that again

Okay, now we have some new behavior. After dlkgood suggest Firefox, which I don’t have, I decided to try Chrome on my Chromebook.

This time, if I opened the file as a new project, it looks normal. (yay!) But…

If I add an svg to an existing project workspace, it still loads with the same issue. (dang)

Since it worked on the Chromebook, I decided to go back to the PC and see if I could do the same there (which I could not yesterday). Guess what? It worked just like on the Chromebook.

So the behavior is changing, but at least it seems that I have a work around by creating a new project for each file rather than loading it into an exiting project. If I want to gang images together, I’ll have to do it in inkscape - at least for the time being.

I am experiencing the same issue on a Windows desktop using both Edge and Chrome. Files I have been using for months all of a sudden aren’t importing correctly and are displaying the same as in your screenshots, then they are printing in reverse. It’s definitely a glowforge software issue.

Welcome to the forum.

Browsers update in the background and sometimes change how information is processed. Open the Glowforge app in Firefox and see if the issue resolves.

It works intermittently in Firefox. For example, I just printed 8 of the same design from a single uploaded file by using copy paste within Glowforge app. I top aligned all 8 copies, the first of 8 printed in reverse and did not cut. The remaining 7 printed correctly. Next I uploaded a new design, it had the same issue as before in Chrome & Edge where it merges the layers together and adds blank layers that will print reverse. I tried contacting Glowforge support, but I’m not receiving any response. This has been happening since Friday. Definitely an app problem they need to fix asap. Below is an image of the merging of files from within Firefox (147.0.4 (64-bit))

Thanks for the reply. Firefox is not compatible with my PC (cannot install in S-mode), so I can’t test it in that way. Since the behavior is the same in Edge and Chrome - and with kaibean’s confirmation that it also occurs in Firefox, it does not seem like the browser is the issue.
