My mother has always had time for a cup of tea and good book.
I received the bare Bigelow tea chest from a friend and I thought; with a little work this could be nice.
Engraving away the varnish to make room for the Maple veneer.
Took 5 passes until I was happy with the depth. I wanted the veneer to be inset but not flush.
That turned out beautiful! I really like the design of the cup, and the sayings on the inside! Your mom is really going to enjoy opening it with every cup of tea she drinks! Thanks for sharing your work with us.
First, I must say that your mother has a treasure in you! Beautiful job on the inlay and the liner. Not sure how you’ll top such an exquisite gift next year though!
I though exposing the wood by engraving away the varnish looked great, but applying veneer just took it to a whole new level @guyverchaz, and the inside inscription is inspiring.
Congratulations @guyverchaz on a beautiful personalized gift for mom!
