It certainly is impressive!
The original caption was āI told you itās the middle of hunting season but you wanted to party by the lake.ā
Haha! Thatās good!
Saw one I liked, a fish hobbling out of the water on itās fins onto land. behind him in the water is another fish with itās head sticking outā¦ āDonāt walk away form me when Iām talking to you!ā
The reason behind evolution, or something like that.
Nerds, one and all, come to this hideyhole Iāve created to escape the naysayers and my egoā¦ Whoops, canāt escape that, itās too big. So, come on down and share. And yes, you can bring your ego too! Hopefully, there is enough bandwidth to handle us all.
Ok, what if we could take the coherent, infrared output from the GF and input that into a high pressure tube of, say helium, to get a beam encoded with that digital info across a broad range of frequencies from x-ray to high energy UV? What could we cut, imprint, or engrave with that? You would now have control over speed, power, focus, and a new variable, frequency. http://cen.acs.org/articles/90/i24/First-Tabletop-X-Ray-Laser.html
Against the establishment line, nerds have been saying that high energies could be obtained from otherwise mundane processes, like cold fusion, sonoluminescence, etc, etc. But from pulling sticky tape off a roll? Yes, indeed! http://www.nature.com/news/2008/012345/full/news.2008.1185.html
Giant morel mushroom found recently in Missouri. No joke. https://www.facebook.com/417news/photos/a.1404333273190242.1073741828.1401354960154740/1599594510330783/?type=3&theater
I havenāt gotten any this year. I usually have some nice folks give me some but it was cool and dry last week. This is amazing!
That is just freaky!
It solves the problem of little pieces being dropped and rolling away from you.
On second thought youāve replaced losing a tiny part with being crushed by a part.
Methods are being developed that expand the materials that can be etched by using, visible, UV, electron beams, x-rays, ion beams etc instead of the infrared beam employed by Glowforge. Here is one such approach.
Just realized that the link cannot be accessed by most. I will look for another.
Bless you for that lovely reminder of whatās possible. Good olā Gene. Have you seen this one?

Itās a pretty glorious short read.
The first time I saw this one I was all ādamn it Oatmeal, you are supposed to be funny not all feelsā
I love The Oatmeal. I recently got the (crowd-funded) coloring book and the adult coloring book (backer reward). Wish I could show you the awesomeness. Backed it twice to give one set to my girlfriend.
Thank you for that! I truly believe that Gene will be remembered not only for leading us to the stars, but for helping humanity to find its humanity.
Matt (of The Oatmeal) is a hell of a guy. That post was one of his best.
We made some fun Exploding Kittens gamepiece prototypes the last time he visited the officeā¦ Iāll have to see if we can get some art from him for the catalog.
