Took me a couple of tries to get it right

Todays project on a bamboo cutting board (the back)

How did it turn out? I got banding when I tried using strips of overlapping tape. I finally broke down and bought a roll of masking paper.

this was a full strip of masking tape, the glue on the tape would not hold on the surface of the bamboo, so i made a burn burrito! - updates when its done

FWIW, I’m pretty sure @bwente was referring to the areas of overlapped tape strips, and the extra layer of tape can make for an obvious difference in the engraving. (Same for any wrinkle or bubble in the tape which can lift up and catch fire.) If you haven’t tried it, do a test on a finished bamboo board with no masking, and you might find you can go without any at all. Bamboo wipes clean really easily and doesn’t stain from the soot. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Just a tip, you do not need to mask bamboo when engraving. Once done just use some dish soap and a soft brush and all the residue will come right off! Love the image BTW.
