Turned My Basic On After Years Sitting Dormant

And it was like I used it just yesterday. Everything cut fine and the alignment was still spot on. That’s kind of amazing. I had a bypass operation in Oct 2023, and I’m sure it was well before then when I used it last. The speeds have been updated; the 275 speed setting I always used on 1/16" wood is now 283. It blazed right through it, though. I ordered this Basic in Oct 2020. Five years old and performing as good as it did when new. I must have gotten a cherry of a machine. :grinning:

Thanks! Yeah, it was a real wake-up call for me. But everything is going smoothly, so far.

Quite a few of us are chugging along on our first machines  Glad to hear the sabbatical didn’t hurt yours, and that you’re back to making!

You might skim through the Announcements category to see what you missed while you were off (speed changes being one of them!)

The only parts stressed from use are the power supply and mechanical components. So you’re good there.

As the tube is a bespoke part, quality appears to be all over the board. Mine lasted about five years also, well past the predicted two.

Yep, I was afraid I’d have diminished power from the tube, since they can apparently weaken over time, whether used or not. It will fun to see how long it hangs in there.

Thank you! And yes, I have a lot of catching up to do.

Hiya Dan! Yeah, I was expecting a few setbacks after such a long idle period, but it was as simple as turning it on and running a part. It’s been a solid investment. 100%
