Two hours in with the Aura

Two hours and all is get is “scanning” or “calibrating” I am not impressed.
I see this as a not so cheap toy for people that can not use a real Laser Engraver and LightBurn.
In another 45 minutes it will be boxed up and then returned in the morning as defective.
Buying into the hype was a big mistake!

Sorry to hear that. I get frustrated with tech that doesn’t work to my expectations right away, so I know what that’s like. If you want, you can try contacting customer support before you give up. They might be able to help resolve it.

Thanks Chris … I actually got a very good deal on this machine or I would not have bought it.
Found a coupon for 40% off any item in the store and they did just that. (Think it was a mistake)
The problem is that I own two other diode laser engravers and a C02 laser that all run off LightBurn software.

Paying money every month for this laser that costs more than a 24 watt Atzer machine and is locked to Glowforge proprietary software is not such a good deal even at the low price I got it for.
Not trying to badmouth this device just saying what I feel is the truth.
If you like it then it is for you.
I think the machine is built like a toy and is very restrictive when it comes to creativity.
It seems to be made for people that just want to load preexisting designs and press a button to get the finished product.
It will be returned to the store I bought it from in the morning regardless of what it says on the box.
So glad I used my credit card.

Understood. You will never be happy with your Glowforge, so it would be best to return it.

Premium subscription isn’t necessary FYI.

Ekla perhaps I misunderstood … during setup I was presented with a choice … either choose the Standard plan or the Premium plan. Both plans offered a free 45 day trial but then require a monthly payment after that. Is there a third choice? I guess I should call the customer service number and talk to them before returning it. To their credit Glowforge has a telephone number for customer service here in the USA. I think only one other laser engraver maker has that.
The things I like about the Aura:
It is compact, it will be safe to use at trade shows (I engrave pens on the spot), it has a camera to help get your engraving exactly where it belongs, WIFI connection (but would like a Bluetooth option also), good customer support. Unfortunately I could not get my unit working so I can not comment about the design software or the speed and quality of engraving but I would expect it to be on par with any other 5 watt machine.

Every new user gets the Premium trial at the start, but it absolutely isn’t necessary to use the machine. Uploading your own artwork and running jobs is totally free.

Premium gets you access to many catalog designs, magic canvas, unlimited design storage and some of the more advanced design functions in the GFUI. You can get all the details here

If those are features you feel you want/need then there’s an ongoing monthly cost - but many users don’t and are very happy. There’s only one subscription option, there’s no cost for standard/basic.

Well I returned the Aura this morning and am no longer an owner.
I will leave the group.
Happy holidays to everyone and I wish you a more prosperous next year than this one has been.
Keep on Crafting!
