Unconnected black wire

Hello,

My Glowforge has an unconnected black wire, looks like it may be for grounding. It’s under the left side cover. I’ve provided an image of the wire below. What is this supposed to be connected to? Can I leave it as is? I’m worried that it is important, or it may get caught while the laser is moving.

Thanks!

What is the other end of the wire connect to? I just had a look in my GF Pro and didn’t see anything that might correspond to your loose wire.

It looks like it goes into the tread style housing that connects to the laser.

Good catch! I would be worried too!
@acarrion has shared where it looks like it goes (that is so helpful!)
You might want to contact support though - is your machine under warranty?
Just be careful.

In my GF Pro, what I’m pretty sure is the black wire heads toward the back of the machine then loops around forward and is attached with a screw to the aluminum rail the head carriage rides on. Here’s a photo that shows which hole was used to attach the wire to the other side of the rail:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip! Do you have a picture of it actually secured to the rail? I was able to stick my phone in to get a good shot of the other side.

Here’s one I managed to take.

Not great because the camera didn’t like focusing so close, and I didn’t want to struggle with it. But it does show the other side with the wire attached.

Wow, big thank you! I see exactly what I need to fix now. Surprising that it came shipped like this…
