Updated Terms of Service Question

Am I reading the updated terms of service correctly, that I sign away my rights to Glowforge on everything I send to the laser?

gf terms

I must be reading this incorrectly.

Thanks in advance for helping me to understand.

I read it that you are granting them the right to store it for you until you delete it.

If they don’t have permission to use your files, they can’t operate the service and your laser is a doorstop.

The terms seem pretty reasonable to me, it says “solely to enable your use of that Content”, so they can’t do anything with it besides what is necessary for the app to work.

You’re reading it incorrectly. It’s not a new section for the terms of service either. You agreed to that provision however many years ago you first signed up. All that’s changed in the July 31st version is:

  • A new section about AI generated images, for the Magic Canvas feature
  • You agree not to harass, threaten, disparage the employees that are helping you (e.g. in support tickets or live chat)
  • If your account is terminated for breaking the terms, you’re not allowed to just make a second account to get around that
  • They added the new Glowforge Spark, Plus HD and Pro HD models to the section about returns and refunds

Thank you @dan84 for summarizing the most recent Terms of Service changes. The terms can change to cover feature updates (ex. Magic SVG) and new product lines (ex. Performance series HD Plus and Pro).

Running into unexpected issues that affect you from printing can be stressful and create heightened frustration or anxiety. We sincerely want to work with fellow users for a quick resolution. I don’t want this to come across as condescending, but taking a deep breath and creating a list of the trouble encountered and what has been done can help the troubleshooting experience.

This also includes support for accounts, Glowforge Premium, and other administration help.
