I am wondering if the items in the catalog ever expire or are removed - Do I need to collect everything I want right now in case I come back some day and it is unavailable?

In my experience, the catalog offerings remain. The only exception would be the “design of the month” for premium subscribers. At one time, these were subject to price changes after the initial month. If you drop your premium subscription, your access to “free with premium” files is lost.
