Viasat Internet

I discovered something this morning and after a search of the posts and seeing no mention of it, I thought I would share.

I had read a recommendation to setup up my GF on a guest network, so early this morning on the first day for new bandwidth I set about creating one. Two hours later, without ever being able to connect, I realized that Viasat guest accounts require a password splash screen. This is a problem considering the GF doesn’t support them.

I went into redneck MacGyver mode and came up with a solution. I renamed my default 2.4 g network name to Glowforge Access and set up a unique password. I then changed the name and password on the 2.4 guest access to what the default was. Now anyone with a smart device can enter the required pass word and my favorite toy has its own network.
I’m wondering how many new users with wifi problems are being caused by guest accounts with a password splash screen. I hope this helps someone.

I think I was the one that initially figured out the guest network solution for my GF. It certainly made a big difference for me. Before that I had so much wifi interference with other devices on my network.

It didn’t matter that I had ‘great’ internet with ‘blazing’ speed, if 20 things are all sharing the network and something is competing with your GF on the same channel or something you are going to have difficulty. My biggest offender was my Apple TV. Unplugging it while using my GF made a huge difference before setting up my guest network dedicated to my GF. I’m thankful we are all sharing solutions so that we can help each other.
