I spent several months living in a place with tons of chestnut trees, and IIRC, that is what all the locals did.

Conkers was banned at my primary school. I guess I bunch of girls swinging nuts as hard as they could was frowned upon.
When we played, there was the normal goal of breaking the other persons, and a secondary goal of just knocking it to the ground where you then scream and try to stomp it to death. Screaming seemed like an important part of it.
Because 3rd grade girls play to win. I guess.
