I finally had the opportunity to see it on a big screen earlier this year (I was at sea when it originally came out). The audience was split between old farts like me and their grandkids seeing it for the first time. A good time was had by all!
“Well, I guess it goes from God, to Jerry, to you… to the cleaners. Right, Kent?”
Unfortunately, one thing would just lead to another. One might start with a basic furniture-sized laser but then you need a shop big enough to put it in. Then of course you need all the other tools needed to do any work. So then you are out looking for a still bigger shop. By that time you discover a need to win a lottery and lose 50 years off your body.
My business has grown and I outgrew my Glowforge. I really needed a bigger bed and more power! I was able to upgrade to my dream laser, a Thunder Nova 51 with a 130 watt laser tube. It has a 51x35 bed which I think is an 8x increase in bed size over the Glowforge. It can also handle 4x8 sheets of material using the pass through!
I wouldn’t have been able to get here without the Glowforge. It was the best investment I’ve ever made. I’ve purchased mine on day 3 of the crowdfunding campaign and had never touched a laser before.
Power is one thing, but if I don’t have room for it in the house, can’t move it myself, etc, then I don’t need a new laser. Getting the GF from the front door, down the hall, and onto the table, required a lot of ingenious engineering.
