Why do I get masks in my PDF?

After so many years, we’re still seeing:

We can’t process masks (yet!).
The mask(s) have been rendered along with your design in case you prefer to cut them out separately. For now, edit the affected shapes with a path subtraction tool and they will upload successfully

That “yet” implies we would have seen some enhancement, but I guess the priority isn’t there.

Ok, what I am trying to do is to export a box design from Affinity Designer to a PDF to then cut the box on the GLowForge. The sides of the box have logos (in SVG) and a graphic that is to be engraved. GlowForge does not like that image (which is a raster image), and complains. The box cuts fine, the logo engraves also, but the raster image does not. How do I need to export this to get it to engrave?

Masks are what .svg programs use to hide parts of rasters - it shouldn’t have any issue with a regular raster.

Would you be willing to post your art here and maybe one of us can figure out what it’s yelling about

I will also add, because it amuses me every time. It’s clearly looking for the word “mask” in the .svg coding, because the leather masks that I cut always get that pop-up despite their being no graphic masks in the file :stuck_out_tongue:

This file is what causes the problem, when it is added to a PDF. Everything else starts out as an SVG, and then this is a raster. This is one of the things I want engraved.

I also don’t like that for years, I keep seeing "We can’t process masks (yet!). " Is that ever going to change? I remember back when we were promised some basic shapes and text in the GlowForge app UI. Now that sort of thing is locked behind a monthly fee. Will masks be the next “Premium” feature?

Mask support is one of those things in the I don’t even know what size hopper of “things that are probably a good idea and at some point maybe should be done”. It’s obviously not a priority for them probably due to the fact that the end user can work around by flattening or rasterizing things.
