I’m so glad I found this! One of the guys on another forum put me onto Fusion 360 a week or two ago, and I really like it!
(Need all the help I can get though! It’s good to know we’ve got experts on the forum!)

It’s what I do the majority of my 3D work in these days. It’s pretty awesome. Especially if you are intending to turn those designs into real objects
It’s spectacular for 3D printer modeling, (been playing with the T-Splines), and I like the idea of making the 2D stuff parametric to deal with the eventual need to change the material thicknesses.
Even for beginners, it is one of the more intuitive programs I’ve used - it’s very easy to pick up. (Anyone looking for design software should give the free version a try.)
Lots of good YouTube video training too. I’m making my way through the Fundamentals before hitting the Webinars.
Everything you say here is true. I never thought I’d abandon SketchUp so completely but when it does what SketchUp does well, almost as well and then goes on to do its own thing SO well…
My knife sharpener from first concept to what it is now was done completely in Fusion. I am looking forward to making $100K a year so I can pay for it.
I actually designed a mask a while ago in fusion and had it printed up. Turns out a few measurements were off, and the inside of the eyebrows and nose were too thick (I did the whole backside manually, didn’t know about thicken at the time!).
A couple weeks ago I got a fresh 3D scan of my head and pulled up the old model, deleted the whole back side, updated the front, thickened it, and sent it off to shapeways for a high res color print. Was a super simple process going back to do this. It turned out amazing.
Wow! Just wow!
Wow, the back is a cool as the front!
Nice work!! Cant wait to see what people do with Fusion 360 and their Glowforge
Is this still true?
I downloaded it and registered it for free as a hobbyist about a month ago. On Youtube, search “fusion 360 glowforge” for some very recent beginners tutorials. Here’s a link to the first one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oJIlU4H1as
Yes. You will need to re-register it once a year, but they continue to offer it for free with re-registration.
Just might have to dig for the option sometimes. Approaching the download page from different links result in slightly different registration options being available. Though once you find and use it, it’ll prompt for the renewal in program and present the free option quite clearly.
